Channel 2 is Running a Bad Ad
Channel 2.1 is running an ad that really uses The President in their ad. It is by Tax Resolution Specialists, 1 800 240 1700. Today they have a new number 1 888 463 8205. They cut in and out of Obama's speech to sell their services. I tried to contact ch 2 and got a woman in ad sales that wouldn't give her name and was very rude. I would love to see Ch13's WD at the ch2 studios with his camera. My feelings since I talked to ch2 is don't watch them again. 06-26-2009 UPDATE I just went to Rippoffreport.com and This company Tax Resolution Specialist has a page of complaints. Why didn't ch2 check them out. Jesse

Bird of the Week: Northern Mockingbird

Perhaps a more appropriate name for this week’s featured bird, the northern mockingbird, would be the northern mimicbird, since its wide vocal repertoire can include songs from more than 50 other bird species. Mockingbirds have even been known to mimic music, machinery and human whistling, and each individual bird’s range of vocalizations is related to its age and experiences. With such a capacity for learning and memory, there is nothing to mock about the mockingbird!

Honeywell Wind Turbine to be Sold at Ace Hardware Stores for $4,500

Last week, we mentioned that the small wind market is growing like crazy, and if things go as planned, there could be another turbine company to watch. The Honeywell Wind Turbine from EarthTronics, according to Martin LaMonica of CNET, will be sold in participating Ace Hardware Stores starting this October. EarthTronics claims the turbine can generate power at wind speeds as low as 2 mph. With Class 4 winds, the turbine can generate about 2,000 kWh per year, which is roughly 15-20% of an average home's electricity needs.
The turbine design is key to generating power at such a low wind speed. Unlike vertical axis or three-blade designs, the Honeywell Wind Turbine resembles a fan -- the design eliminates the box, shaft, and generators -- but it's gearless. The six-foot, 95-pound turbine generates power at the blade tips, rather than at the gear box.
For $4,500, the Honeywell Wind Turbine Power Blade System will be sold with a computerized smart box, inverter, and inter connect switch to wire the system to the household panel. EarthTronics says the turbine's installed cost is lower than any other turbine on the market today.
With free federal money and possible state and utility incentives, it could make economic sense to buy a Honeywell Wind Turbine. In favorable incentive areas, EarthTronics anticipates a payback of 12-36 months, so this will be a neat piece of technology to watch. I guess the question is, would you buy one?

The New Texas License Plate

Over 450,000 Texans voted for the new license plate design, shown above, which features the new 7-character numbering system. The digitally-produced, full color plate depicts the Davis Mountains, Texas' most extensive mountain range, and will be available as soon as the Travis County tax assessor's office exhausts its supply of the current 6-character plates.
