Uncle Frank's Station

Frank Hartley was my great uncle. He and my Aunt Thelma ran a Texaco Gas station in Milano Texas.

Frank ran the station and did mechanic work and sold tires. Thelma had a lunch counter and did the cooking.

Uncle Frank and Aunt Thelma died about 10 years ago and the property has been sitting abandoned ever since that time. The station closed up about 25 years ago.

My strongest memories of the place are of my Aunt's cooking. She made the greatest hamburgers on the face of the earth right there inside this building.

When the station closed they sold the pumps, all except one old hand powered pump. I remember Uncle Frank telling me that once back in the 40's or 50's (I can't remember exactly) that they lost power in three counties and he was the only one that could still pump gas. That's a lesson that we could have used when most of Houston lost power during hurricane Ike.
