Sugarloaf Mountain Historical Marker Dedication

Sugarloaf
Mountain is located near the confluence of the little river and the
Brazos River. The red Sandstone rock was a path for a large Indian group
known as the Rancheria Grade De Los Ervipiame. Early American settlers
learned of the trails and used then when traveling.
Sugarloaf Mountain was a very important landmark on the old road system. The mountain is recognized by Milam County, the state of Texas, and the National Parks Service as an important landmark.
On Saturday October 26 a dedication was held to present a new marker for the bridge and the mountain.
Jackie Thornton was the mistress of ceremonies and Johnnielyn Brown welcomed the large crowed to the ceremony.
The Gause 4-H students did the posting of the colors and lead the pledges. Kelly-Lee Cooper sang the National Anthem and Rev. Kenneth Byrd gave the invocation.
Geri Burnett did the introductions and Joy Graham gave a brief history of Sugarloaf Mountain.
Dr. Lucile Estell gave the closing remarks, which was followed by the unveiling of the new marker done by Mary Neely, Elaine Baumann, Darlene Anglen, and Robert Gaston.
The ceremony came to a close with the state song by Pete Lawson and the benediction by David Kaufmann. All credits go Suezan Hoskins | Robertson County News
